Coordinates: 34 ° 9 ′ S , 138 ° 25 ′ E The Wakefield Regional Council is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 3469 km² and has about 6800 inhabitants (2016).
Wakefield is located in the Lower North region of South Australia at the northern end of the Saint Vincent Gulf about 160 kilometers north of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes 53 hamlets and villages: Alma, Avon, Balaklava, Barabba Hill, Barunga, Barunga Gap, Beaufort, Blyth, Boucaut, Bowillia, Bowmans, Brinkworth, Bumbunga, Burnsfield, Cameron, Condowie, Condowie Plains, Corcondo, Dalkey, Erith , Everard, Everard Central, Goyder, Halbury, Hamley Bridge, Hart, Hope Gap, Hoskins Corner, Hoyleton, Inkerman, Kallora, Kybunga, Lake View, Lochiel, Lorne, Maro Creek, Marola, Mount Templeton, Mundoora, Nantawarra, Owen, Pinery, Port Wakefield, Proof Range, Rochester, Saints, Salter Springs, Snowtown, Stockyard Creek, Stow, Watchman, Whitwarta and Wokurna. The council's administrative headquarters are in Balaklava in the south of the LGA.

The Wakefield Council has twelve members, eleven councilors are elected by the residents of the five wards (two each from the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Ward, three from the Central Ward). These five districts are defined independently of the localities. The council chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the LGA.
