The Langau – Lackenhof forest railway was a horse-drawn meter gauge - forest railway with metal- clad wooden rails from Langau near Gaming to Ötscherwiese near Lackenhof in Lower Austria . It was moved by the Festetics family (Domain Gaming) in 1828 and operated until 1867/1868.

history

Firewood from trees that were felled on the White Ois , the upper reaches of the Ybbs , were drifted unbundled to Langau . In order to transport this wood to the Erlauf that flows into the Danube , the Langau – Lackenhof horse-drawn tram was relocated in 1828 . From 1856 it was also used to transport wood felled in the Rothwald , which had previously been transported to the Oisklause with the Rothwald Railway .

Route

The 4.7 km long route led from Langau past Lackenhof, through the Weitental to the Ötscherwiese.

Superstructure

The track consisted of 5.25 meter long wooden rails with a track width of 1000 mm, which were fitted with iron flat rails. The route of the railway is still visible today and serves as a bike and hiking trail.

Transport chain

The drying and transport of the firewood from Rothwald to Vienna took about 2 years. The following transport chain was run through from 1854:
