The forest railway Lundanka ( Russian Лунданская узкоколейная железная дорога , transkr. Lundanskaja uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga , transl. Lundanskaâ uzkokolejnaâ železnaâ doroga ) is a fifteen kilometers long narrow-gauge railway to the village Lundanka in Kirov Oblast in Russia .
history
The narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 750 millimeters was built in 1950. Steam locomotives were initially used. In the 1960s the first diesel locomotives of the SŽD series ТУ4 appeared on the main lines, as well as locomotives of the type MD54-4 on the branch lines and air lines (i.e. provisionally relocated lines). There was also an AM1-194 rail vehicle, but it was rarely used. In 1980 the line was still in operation for a length of up to fifteen kilometers.
Current status
Since 1999 there has been no longer any timber transport on the narrow-gauge railway in winter. Lundanski Lespromchos was leased to Ars-Group LLC, which invested heavily in restoring the forest and narrow-gauge railroads to normal operation. In August 2014, the forest railway was only in operation on half of the total length of fifteen kilometers.
