The Hardt is a large forest area within the city of Bergisch Gladbach . It is surrounded by several districts: Sand in the north, Herkenrath in the east , Moitzfeld and Bensberg in the south, Heidkamp in the west .

history

Mining

The Romans probably already mined in Hardt. In many places certain traces point to medieval mining. There were several mines, some of them larger, that gave work to many miners. The iron mines Grube Selma and Grube Britannia are also worth mentioning .

The former Steigerhaus of the Blücher pit was rededicated in 1960 to the Naturfreundehaus Haus Hardt after renovations and restorations.

Nature reserve

The Hardt nature reserve covers 163.76 hectares and consists mainly of forest. It is under key no. GL-066 entered the list of nature reserves in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .
