The Britannia mine is a former iron ore mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Sand district . The main operating point was about 100 meters south of the Knoppenbissen settlement in the Hardt.

history

The authoritative file of the Britannia mine at the Arnsberg district government, Mining and Energy Department (formerly Dortmund State Mining Authority ) begins with volume 2 and is not very meaningful because only the owners have been dealt with since 1892. At that time, the mining activities had already been completed. From the files of mountain land register at the county court Bergisch Gladbach, the results ceremony of the mining area Britannia first time under the 12 April 1849 no details of the addressee and the subject of the ceremony. On October 11, 1865, the Britannia union submitted an application for expansion, which was probably about the expansion of the mine field. The application was granted with a certificate of October 19, 1868 for the extraction of the iron ore . The land register was closed on August 28, 1967 at the request of the Bonn Mining Authority on July 12, 1967.

Operation and facilities

There is no information about the operation and facilities of the mine, which was ranked fifth among the relatively high-yield iron mines in the Paffrath lime basin.
