Woodruff Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waldmeister quadrille is a quadrille that is attributed to Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 468). The place and date of the premiere are not known.

Remarks

The work was put together based on motifs from the operetta Waldmeister , which premiered in 1895 . It joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 463 , 464 , 465 , 466 , and 467 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. Unlike the other pieces of music compiled from this operetta, this quadrille was not personally arranged by Johann Strauss. He left this work to the theater conductor Leopold Kuhn, who was familiar with the operetta Waldmeister. It is not known why exactly Strauss did not undertake this work himself. Maybe it was because of his advancing age or simply because of scheduling problems. The first performance of the Quadrille was not performed by the Strauss Chapel, but by military music. The work was then played by these for some time. Then it disappeared in the archives.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 58 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
