Love and marriage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Love and marriage is a polka mazurka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 465). The work was performed for the first time on January 5, 1896 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Waldmeister . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 463 , 464 , 466 , 467 and 468 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The polka was first called love philosophy and then life philosophy before it got its current name. The title goes back to a couplet from the aforementioned operetta (No. 15 of the score), which begins with the text Love comes, love goes . The second stanza then begins with the words marriage comes, marriage stays . Another motif used in the polka comes from the music in between from the first to the second act.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 9 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
