The Tremmerup forest settlement in January 2015

The forest settlement Tremmerup (also shortened to: Tremmerup ) is a Flensburg settlement area in the middle of the Fördewald , which is counted to the north of the settlement to the Glücksburger Wald and to the south of the settlement is counted to the Flensburg area of Twedter Feld . The forest settlement in the Mürwik district ( Friedheim district ) is part of a Flensburg landscape protection area . It used to be a small military base and is now a residential complex .

history

The name "Tremmerup" probably means "village of Thrimmi" or "Thrimmi's village". It is unclear where exactly this original village was. Apparently the name was later transferred to the nearby forest of the Glücksburg Forest, which has been called since the Tremmeruper Forest . Parts of this forest were cleared in 1210 and the monastery was built, which was given the name Rudekloster due to the "raw dung". In 1582 the monastery was replaced by Glücksburg Castle , after which the small town of Glücksburg got its name. The name Tremmerup is first attested in 1691 and already corresponded to today's spelling. The spelling Trimrup has also been handed down from 1779.

The area of the forest settlement Tremmerup apparently came to Flensburg with the incorporation of 1910, when Engelsby , Fruerlund , Twedt and Twedter Holz were added to the city. The street that leads to the settlement was named Tremmerupweg on October 22, 1936. Already in the time of the Second World War there was the shooting range Twedter Feld of the Wehrmacht on Tremmerupweg (see special area Mürwik ). After the war , the shooting range was used by the Flensburg customs school , which was located in the Mürwik naval school. From 1961 to 1993 the Tremmerup area at the end of the Tremmerupweg was used by a telecommunication unit (see: Marine telecommunication staff 70 ), so the first buildings were built in the forest clearing. The neighboring shooting range was also used again for military purposes.

After the political change in Eastern Europe in the 1990s, the military was restructured after reunification. The Tremmeruper area was released and therefore offered for sale. Large parts of the city were affected by this process, for example the not far away Sonwik area near the Mürwik naval school, as well as the neighboring shooting range mentioned above. Today there is a socio-ecological housing project in “Tremmerup”. The forest settlement has a size of over 6 hectares. The stream there bears the name Mühlenbek, which is not to be confused with the Mühlenstrom in downtown Flensburg . It got its name obviously after the old water mill at the end of the stream in Meierwik , where there is also a small mill stream pond . There is a legend about the nearby forest of Groß-Tremmerup (see Der Freischütz ).
