history

A railroad siding ran into the Walgoolan area in 1895 and 1899. The first settlers settled there from 1913. After the First World War , almost 100 settlers settled there in 1922, clearing the area and growing wheat. The place developed, it had five schools, a tennis court and a cricket club. The city hosted organizations such as the Country Women's Association and Wheat Growers . The city was founded in 1923. According to a report from 1926, there was a walled-in hall that was used for cultural and community events.

The global economic crisis of 1929 and the prolonged drought that followed led to the place becoming depopulated. In 1932 it is reported that there were two granaries in the city. As a result of the prolonged drought, emus gathered in a large herd in 1932 , which triggered the so-called Emu War . The animals invaded the agricultural areas around the place in search of water and food. All factors threatened successful harvests. The inhabitants of the city, who lived mainly from growing grain, left them. In 1940 there was only one trading shop left in town. The place lost its recognition as a city. In 2010 only ten families lived in the city.

In 2010, a pavilion was built in the place to commemorate the time of settlement, showing historical photos and listing the early pioneers by name.
