Wallaceochromis is a genus of smaller, West African cichlids (cichlids). The genus, which was only introduced in 2016, was named in honor of the British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace .

features

The Wallaceochromis species reach body lengths of 6.5 to 12.5 cm, with males becoming larger. They are similar to the species of the genus Pelvicachromis , to which they were counted until mid-2016, but differ morphologically and in terms of color from the other members of Pelvicachromis . They grow larger, are slimmer and more elongated, have a more pointed, more underneath mouth, and in most moods show seven or eight vertical bands on the sides of the body. In addition, they differ from Pelvicachromis in details of the skull morphology . The head profile is straighter and the number and arrangement of the pores on the eye ring bones (infraorbitalia) are different. Wallaceochromis species have 14 to 15 trunk vertebrae, Pelvicachromis species 13 to 14.
