museum

The area of the community Triesenberg was permanently settled by immigrant Walsers from the end of the 13th century. Until the Second World War , the principality was dominated by agriculture. Motorization and industrialization in the Rhine Valley changed life in the mountain farming village fundamentally.

Engelbert Bucher is considered to be the initiator of the museum, he began as a Triesenberg pastor (1943–1979) to collect cultural goods and everyday objects. In 1959 the community acquired house no. 19 , which was built in 1601 and is now called " Walserhaus ". The first museum opened there two years later. After the construction of a "village center" was planned in 1976, the museum was able to move into a new building that extends over several floors. This museum opened on December 13, 1981. The current director is Leander Schädler .
