Engelbert Bucher

Engelbert Bucher (born September 21, 1913 in Kerns ; † January 19, 2005 in Triesenberg ) was the first dean of the Principality of Liechtenstein (1970–1978) and received numerous honors as a pastor and historian .

Life

After his ordination in 1940, Bucher came to Triesenberg as a chaplain and was appointed pastor as early as 1943 . In addition to his pastoral work, the initiative village pastor devoted himself to researching the history of the village and genealogy with great creativity. The community owes him numerous works on local history and made him an honorary citizen. In 1979 he was honored by Prince Franz Josef II with the title of Princely Spiritual Councilor . A high-ranking and well-deserved award is the honorary badge of the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck in 1990.

The culmination of his work as a local researcher is his nine-volume family chronicle, a work that is unique in its kind. With the collection of cultural goods he began in the 1940s, he laid the foundation stone for the “ Walser Museum Triesenberg ” established in 1961 and 1981 .

Engelbert Bucher was particularly fond of Walserism and Walser research. He belonged to the group from the very beginning who had given new impetus to Walser research in Saas-Fee in 1962 . On the occasion of the 2nd International Walser Meeting in Triesenberg, he was among the founding members of the International Association for Walserism . He was a member of the board until 1995. He was particularly proud of his appointment as papal honorary prelate on the occasion of his Diamond Jubilee as a priest in 2000.
