Rudolf Schädler (composer)

Rudolf Schädler (born March 31, 1903 in Vaduz ; † April 7, 1990 in Eschen ) was a Liechtenstein composer, wood sculptor and hotelier.

biography

Rudolf Schädler was born in Vaduz in 1903 as the son of Rudolf Schädler and his wife Maria (née Marxer). He attended high school in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg . From 1930 until 1955 he managed the Kurhaus Gaflei .

In April 1933 he took part in the Rotterdam attack, in which Schädler, together with three accomplices, tried to kidnap Fritz and Alfred Rotter , as well as Alfred Rotter's wife Gertrud, to Germany. During the hunt that took place, which only Fritz Rotter escaped, Alfred and Gertrud Rotter fell to their death while fleeing from a rock below Gaflei. In the process that followed, Schädler and his three accomplices were found guilty, but received only mild sentences. Schadler was sentenced to 12 months in prison, including his pre-trial detention.

Schädler was involved in the Liechtenstein homeland service . He later became a founding member of the Volksdeutsche movement in Liechtenstein , as its first country leader he also functioned. After a short time in this post, he was replaced by Theodor Schädler in autumn 1938.

After the Second World War , he only appeared artistically.
