Yngve Eilert Määttä (born September 22, 1935 in Kiruna ; † May 7, 2011 in Södertälje ) was a Swedish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

Eilert Määttä began his career as a hockey player at Skellefteå AIK , for whose professional team he was in Division 1 , the then highest Swedish league, atkviw ar from 1956 to 1963 . He then played for another nine years for his league rivals Södertälje SK , where he ended his active career in 1972 at the age of 37.

In the 1978/79 season Määttä was active as the head coach of Djurgårdens IF from the Elitserien .

International

For Sweden Määttä took part in the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , where he and his team won the silver medal. He was also in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1957 , 1962 , 1963 , 1965 and 1967 . At the World Championships in 1957 and 1962, he won the gold medal with his team. As the best European team, Sweden also became European champions. At the World Championships in 1963 and 1967 he and his team won the silver medal and the bronze medal at the 1965 World Cup.
