Walter Alberts

Walter Alberts (born September 9, 1883 in Hagen , † October 15, 1948 in Bochum ) was a German ironworker and manager of the German steel industry.

Life

Walter Alberts studied metallurgy at the Bergakademie Freiberg and became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia in 1904 . After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant at the Bergakademie Clausthal , at the Königshütte in Upper Silesia and then as a production engineer at the Gutehoffnungshütte in Oberhausen. In 1919 he became operations manager at the Duisburg-Ruhrort location of the Phoenix Group . In 1926, with the formation of the United Steel Works , he was appointed director of the Ruhrort-Meiderich iron and steel works. In 1932 he moved within the group as technical director to Henrichshütte, which belongs to Ruhrstahl AG . In 1934 he became a member of the board and in 1937 deputy chairman of the board of Ruhrstahl AG. In 1942 he was appointed chairman of the board of the Bochumer Verein, which also belongs to the United Steelworks, as successor to Walter Borbet . He held this management position until his death in 1948.

The special scientific and technical merit of Walter Alberts was the construction and commissioning of a 200 t Talbot furnace in Ruhrort-Meiderich using the knowledge of physical-chemical metallurgy. He was awarded a Dr.-Ing. In 1930 at the Bergakademie Clausthal. PhD. He was a member of the board of directors of the Association of German Ironworkers .
