Walter Asmis

Walter Asmis (born September 22, 1880 in Mesekenhagen , Pomerania , † October 29, 1954 ) was a German lawyer and agricultural functionary.

Life and work

After an agricultural apprenticeship , Walter Asmis studied agriculture and economics in Berlin from 1900 to 1903 , then law in Rostock and Erlangen . After receiving his doctorate , he worked in various agricultural administrative departments. From 1919 to 1928 he acted as managing director of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Province of Schleswig-Holstein and then until 1933 in the same position in the Prussian Province of Saxony . He then worked in the Reich Ministry of Economics . In 1946 he was interrogated as a witness to his former superior, the former Reich Economics Minister Hjalmar Schacht, at the Nuremberg trial of the major war criminals .

Then he was director of Export Bau- und Handels GmbH in Berlin. In 1947 he was Vice President of the German Agricultural Society in Frankfurt am Main . In 1948 he was a managing board member of the Association of Chambers of Agriculture . He was a co-founder of the Central Committee of German Agriculture .

His older brother was Rudolf Asmis .
