Walter Blaser (born January 19, 1947 in Meiringen , † November 4, 1988 in Geneva ) was a Swiss professional boxer and contender for the EBU European welterweight title. He lost the fight just on points.

Life

Walter Blaser grew up in Haslital . His father died when he was nine years old. As a contracting boy , he spent the whole summer alone as a cattle herder on an alp. He fell silent, became shy of people. He started boxing training with Charly Bühler . In 1969 the first fights were organized. Walter Blaser soon became a crowd favorite. When Walter Blaser got into the ring, he fought with all ambition. He moved to Geneva and fought for a considerable palmarès . Before his European championship fight against the strong Spaniard Jose Ramon Gomez Fouz , there were 25 wins, 5 defeats and 4 draws. In Geneva he rented a bar from the money he had saved. He called it Bierstube St. Pauli . He later opened the Chez Blaser restaurant .

In 1988, Blaser killed his wife and then committed suicide .
