Walter Henß

Walter Henß (born February 12, 1927 in St. Wendel ; † December 21, 2006 in Heidelberg ) was a German librarian and church historian.

Walter Henß studied German, English, Latin and philosophy at the University of Marburg from 1946 . After the state examination in 1952 and his doctorate in 1953, he held a teaching position for senior German studies at the University of Marburg from 1952 to 1954, and from 1954 to 1956 at the University of Cologne . From 1954 he was a trainee lawyer at the University Library of Marburg and in 1955 passed his librarianship exam at the Librarian Training Institute in Cologne. From 1956 until his retirement at the end of 1990 he worked at the Heidelberg University Library as a specialist in theology and philosophy, and since 1970 he has been its deputy director.

Since 1967 he had a teaching position for church history at the theological faculty of the University of Heidelberg, which made him honorary professor in 1980. In addition to his library work, he dealt with scientific topics: Church history, here the early Bible tradition in the Germanic language area as well as the history of the Reformation , library studies and 20th century graphics , especially copperplate engraving .
