Walter Hoyer (literary scholar)

Walter Hoyer (born February 15, 1893 in Markneukirchen ) was a German literary theorist, translator and author. The senior director of studies was head of the Reichsschule des Deutschen Buchhandels and later library director in Leipzig .

Life

Hoyer received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1922 with a thesis on fabric and design under Georg Büchner . In the 1920s and 1930s he revised the text of classic editions, published literary treatises, and later books, and translated important works from French. During the National Socialist era, Hoyer was involved in establishing the new relationship between politics and poetry.

Hoyer's literary translations are still available in stores today and are published by Suhrkamp , among others .
