Walter Koch (sculptor)

Walter Koch (born June 9, 1910 in Pommerswitz near Leobschütz , Province of Silesia , † May 31, 1979 in Leverkusen ) was a German sculptor .

After his apprenticeship as a wood and stone sculptor, he completed an apprenticeship at the Dresden Art Academy from 1927 to 1934 , where he was a master student of Karl Albiker . In 1934 he received the Great Hugo Göpfert Prize of the Hugo Göpfert Foundation with a scholarship for a one-year study visit to Italy. After his return he settled in Leverkusen. After 1945 his fields of work were portrait busts in bronze and stone and sculptural design for architecture and art in public spaces. Numerous works are in public, private and ecclesiastical ownership (Heidelberg University, St. Joseph, Manfort and others).
