Walter Kornexl

Walter Kornexl (born November 22, 1938 in Bregenz ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and businessman. From 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Kornexl attended the Bundesgymnasium Feldkirch after elementary school and passed his Matura there in 1957 . From 1957 he studied law at the University of Vienna and in 1959 switched to further studies at the University of Innsbruck . In 1962 he completed his studies in Innsbruck with a doctorate in law ( Dr. jur. ). After completing military service in 1963, he joined the Vienna Chamber of Commerce in 1963, where he worked in the foreign trade department until 1970 in the Nairobi , Singapore , Jakarta and Tokyo offices . In 1970 he switched to the Feldkirch Chamber of Commerce, where he was employed in the Foreign Trade and Transport department. Kornexl worked for the Feldkirch Chamber of Commerce until his retirement on January 1st, 1999.

Politics and functions

Kornexl became a member of the CV connection “Norika Wien” during his studies in 1957 and then in 1959 a member of the CV connection “Raeto-Bavaria Innsbruck”. In 1963 he joined the Austrian People's Party and the Austrian Economic Association. From 1989 to 1999 he acted as local chairman of the Frastanz Economic Association and was also a member of the ÖVP district leadership in Feldkirch and from 1989 to 1999 a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg. In local politics he worked from 1975 to 1980 and from 1958 to 2000 as a member of the community council of Frastanz.

From October 24, 1989 to October 4, 1999, he represented the People's Party in the Vorarlberg state parliament as a member of the constituency of Feldkirch, where he was the area spokesman for economy, transport, energy and Europe within the ÖVP state parliament club. He was also deputy chairman of the economic and finance committee and chairman or deputy chairman of the energy policy.

In addition to his political functions, he was active as President of the Rhine Valley Border Community from 1996 to 2000. He was a member and chairman of the Frastanz parish council, member of the Frastanz church choir, member of the Frastanz tennis club, member of the Feldkirch savings bank association and member of the supervisory board of the savings bank association.

Private

Walter Kornexl was born as the son of the judge Leopold Kornexl and his wife Agnes Kornexl. He married his wife Gudrun in 1964 and between 1965 and 1979 he had two sons and three daughters.
