Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Allenstein)
The Roman Catholic Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a neo-Gothic hall church in Allenstein . The church was built from 1901 to 1903 according to a design by the Königsberg architect Friedrich Heitmann , who had previously built the St. Joseph Church in Allenstein.
history
The property was acquired in 1898 for 20,000 marks . Work began in June 1901. Albert Kochanowski designed the frescoes . On October 19, 1903, the church was consecrated by the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Warmia , Eduard Herrmann. The construction costs amounted to 47,896 marks.
architecture
The building is based on the north German brick Gothic , especially in the design of the gable .
The church has three towers: the bell tower to the west and two choir-flank towers. The bell tower is 83 m high and towers over that of St. Mary's Church in Krakow by 2 m. The large ball on the top of the tower has a diameter of 1.7 m. The net vault of the nave rests on ten brick pillars. Two chapels are built on the side aisles: on the north side the chapel of Our Lady, on the south side the chapel in honor of St. Joseph. The church roof is covered with tiles, the spiers with slate.
organ
The organ was built in 1915/1916 by the organ building company Bruno Goebel in Königsberg. The slider chest instrument has 44 registers (including four transmitted registers in the pedal ) on three manuals and pedal. The performance and stop actions are pneumatic.
