Walter Krause (born November 15, 1910 in Vienna ; † August 16, 2007 there ) was an Austrian anatomist. In the opinion of contemporaries and students, he was one of the most influential figures in medical training in Vienna after the Second World War.

Krause spent his childhood and youth in Mödling . After graduating from high school with distinction, he studied medicine at the University of Vienna and graduated with a doctorate in 1933. Krause already worked as an anatomical demonstrator for Julius Tandler during his studies . In 1934 he became an assistant at the 1st anatomical chair. In 1938 he was dismissed for political reasons. After imprisonment during the Nazi era (because of " racial disgrace "), military service in a penal company of the Africa Corps and imprisonment, the anatomist, who received his habilitation in 1949, primarily devoted himself to rebuilding the teaching facility and the institute building. After the death of the head of the institute, Heinrich Hayek, Krause acted as the institute's supplier. In 1971 he was appointed associate professor for topographic anatomy and in 1974 full professor. In particular, Krause's vivid and practical teaching, his professional competence and humanistic education, his understanding of art and his open and humble nature were praised.

In 1995 Krause received the Golden Medal of Honor from the Medical Association for Vienna and in 2005 the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class.

Krause's grave is located at the Vienna Central Cemetery , group 16 C, row 1, grave number 5.
