Walter Krebs (shipbuilding engineer)

Walter Krebs (born August 12, 1890 in Berlin , † November 23, 1977 in Rostock ) was a German shipbuilding engineer; from 1955 to 1961 he was a professor with a teaching position for electrical systems on ships at the University of Rostock .

Life

Walter Christian Victor Krebs was born in Berlin as the son of the publisher August Krebs (1856-1946) and his wife Ide Krebs (1854-1935). After graduating from high school in 1909, Krebs studied heavy current engineering at the TH Berlin from 1909 to 1919; studies were interrupted from 1914 to 1918 due to participation in the First World War. After completing his studies, he worked from 1919 to 1931 as a salesman and site manager for electrical industrial plants at Siemens-Schuckertwerke in Dresden, Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder). From 1934 to 1938 he worked as a production engineer at Junkers Motorenbau and Junkers Flugzeugwerke in Dessau.

Krebs took part in World War II as a soldier and was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1945.

From 1945 he worked as a wood sculptor , group leader for large shipbuilding at VEB Schiffselektrik, and group leader for large shipbuilding at VEB Warnowwerft in Warnemünde .

From 1955, until his retirement in 1961, Krebs was a professor at the University of Rostock. In 1964 he wrote an ancient history dissertation with the title Elephants in the Armies of Antiquity and was awarded a doctorate at the University of Rostock. phil. PhD.

Research and Teaching

Krebs taught from 1951 to 1963 at the Shipbuilding Faculty at the Institute for Electrical Systems on Ships. His focus was on the energy industry and ship electrical engineering.
