Walter Leckebusch

Walter Leckebusch (born November 19, 1902 in Wuppertal , † March 4, 1981 in Munich ) was a German film director , film editor and film producer , who became internationally known primarily for his documentaries .

Life

Leckebusch began his career as an editor. In 1932 he founded the company Walter Leckebusch & Co. , with which he had cultural, educational and advertising films produced for almost 50 years.

Among other things, Leckebusch produced documentaries about the mountain world, the metalworking industry and the post-war period. He achieved international fame in 1950 with the cultural film Bustelli - A Game in Porcelain (direction and screenplay by Carl Lamb ), which was made with the collaboration of Francesco Stefani . For this film, Leckebusch was awarded the prize for the best documentary film at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1951 . In 1954 he also received the Federal Film Prize for the production of Stern von Bethlehem .

In addition, a large number of German dubbed versions of cinema films were made in Leckebusch's production studio, such as B. the film adaptation of Alan Paton's novel Cry - the beloved country ( ... because they should be comforted ).

In 1992 the holdings of the production company Leckebusch came to the Federal Archives .
