Walter Lemke (* 1932 in Munich ; † October 31, 2018 in Rosenheim ) was a German author and cycling historian .

Life

Walter Lemke ran cycling himself in the 1950s as a member of the Munich Bike Racing Club in 1902 . Later he worked in various functions on the board of the association. He turned to cycling history early on and compiled an extensive archive of international cycling literature.

He was the author of several books on cycling. A biography of Thaddäus Robl that had begun remained unfinished. For many years he was co-author of the international cycling yearbook Velo and worked as a journalist on cycling for various print media. Lemke organized several exhibitions, e.g. B. About the former racing cyclist Thaddäus Robl, who like Lemke came from Munich, and cycling in Munich and Bavaria , as well as the history of the high bike .

Lemke was involved in cycling on a voluntary basis in many ways. For years he was the “Tafelmann” on the Bayern Tour, the one who rides a motorcycle on the stages and uses a display board to inform the cyclist about the lag or lead on the main field.
