Walter Nussbaum (born December 20, 1920 in Bonn , † August 18, 2002 in Meisenheim ) was a German football player .

In the 1948/49 season, the midfielder first played at 1. FC Cologne , then still in the regional league. Overall, the then player- coach Hennes Weisweiler used him four times this season. At the end of the season there was promotion to the Oberliga West , after Nussbaum's later club was defeated in the decisive games between the district group champions with Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the major league, Nussbaum became an integral part of the team and played a total of 54 games for FC.

In 1951 he moved to local rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen , for whom he was active until 1955. In the 1954/55 season, Leverkusen narrowly missed qualifying for the final round of the German championship. In the decisive game against SV Sodingen , Nussbaum scored two goals, but when the score was 2-0, he also missed a penalty, which enabled Sodingen to even out the game and ultimately advance to the final round of the German championship. Apart from the game against Alemannia Aachen on the last day of his last season in Leverkusen, Nussbaum was in the starting line-up in all league games during the four years in Leverkusen. Bayer 04 surprisingly got relegated from the first-class league in the coming season in third place last year.

In 1955 Nussbaum returned to his home club in Bonn, where he was still active as a player-coach for a few years. The Bonn FV managed to return to professional football during this time.

Walter Nussbaum was the playmaker of the Bonn FV from 1957 and led it to the Middle Rhine Championship in 1959 and to promotion to the then second upper league West. There he played a great season in 1959/1960 and immediately took 4th place in the 2nd League West with the newly promoted Bonner FV. During the 1960/61 season he ended his active career at Bonn FV. After Walter Nussbaum left, this club began to decline.
