Walter O. Stanton
Walter Oliver Stanton (born September 29, 1914 in Canton , Ohio , † April 16, 2001 in Palm Beach Gardens , Florida ) was an American audio pioneer.
Life
Stanton was the son of Bela Hayden and Edna Stanton, nee Keckeley. He studied at the faculty of electrical engineering at Wayne State University and graduated there successfully in 1939.
He was responsible for patents in the field of pickups , their needles, speakers and electromechanics . This includes the design of pickups with the so-called needle insert, which has established itself there. He invented the first pickup with a diamond pen that could be exchanged by the user himself, and later the first stereophonic and quadrophonic pickups.
Stanton also led the Institute of Hi Fidelity and the Audio Engineering Society (AES) . He was a co-owner of Pickering & Company and founded Stanton Magnetics , which u. a. Manufacture pickups. He headed both companies until 1998.
He was married and had three daughters.
