Walter Olof Streng-Renkonen

Walter Olof Streng-Renkonen (born June 19, 1876 in Mikkeli , † July 16, 1959 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish Germanist, Romanist , Italianist, linguist and lexicographer.

life and work

Walter Olof Streng received his doctorate from the University of Helsinki in 1907 with the thesis H aus und Hof in French with a special focus on dialects. Attempt of an onomasiological study (Helsinki 1907). From 1925 to 1942 he was a lecturer at the University of Turku , and from 1942 until his retirement in 1946 he was associate professor for Romance linguistics.

From 1940, Streng changed his name to Renkonen, but also used the combination of both names.

Strict-Renkonen was the brother of the medical professor Oswald Renkonen (1872–1951).
