Gilles Servat (born February 1, 1945 in Tarbes ) is a French singer , musician , songwriter , actor , poet and writer who lives in Brittany . In his songs he supports the Bretons , their culture and the Breton language . His early career was shaped by the song La Blanche Hermine (roughly: "The white ermine").
Life
Gilles Servat was born in the south of France into a family whose roots lie in the Nantes region of Brittany . He spent his early childhood around Nantes and Cholet . Gilles Servat was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Angers and studied painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking.
His music was originally inspired by the works of the Breton musicians Glenmor and Alan Stivell . The title track from his first album became a hymn for the Bretons. In the 1990s he became part of the " Héritage des Celtes " ("Celtic Heritage").
Servat sings in Breton, French, English and other Celtic languages .
Servat is also an actor and writer; he wrote several novels inspired by Celtic myths and legends.
