Matt Lavelle

Matt Lavelle (* 1970 in Paterson , New Jersey ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , bass clarinet ).

Live and act

Lavelle was a member of the High School Big Band, with whom he toured the Soviet Union in 1988 . He took lessons from Hildred Humphries, a swing veteran. He first moved to New York City and played in various jazz bands, and from 1995 he began playing bass clarinet in Kingston (New York) . After his return to New York in 1999 he worked in what was then the downtown music scene, a. a. with William Parker and Sabir Mateen and the improvisation formation Eye Contact . In 2002 he presented his debut album Handling the Moment ( CIMP ). a. Ras Moshe participated. In 2005 he took lessons from Ornette Coleman . During his career he worked a. a. with Giuseppi Logan , in whose rediscovery he played a key role, as well as with Hildred Humphries, Eric Mingus , Sabir Mateen, Roy Campbell , Daniel Carter , Jemeel Moondoc , Mat Maneri and Patato Valdez . In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions between 2001 and 2013, including a. with Steve Swell and Assif Tsahar .
