The Walter Rau Neusser oil and grease AG (proper spelling WALTER RAU ) is a traditional producer of vegetable fats and oils, based in Neuss , North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
The company was founded in Neuss in 1887 as the N. Simons Söhne oil mill . Nathan Simons commissioned his first mill at Obertor in 1861 and a little later a larger steam-powered roller mill. After a fire in the oil mill in Neuss, the production facilities were relocated to the newly created port area from 1909 to 1911 . In 1929 Walter Rau Lebensmittelwerke bought the company in order to develop a new raw material base for margarine production. In 1933 it was renamed to Walter Rau Neusser Ölwerke AG and in 1979 to Walter Rau Neusser Öl und Fett AG .
In 1999 the Rau family (heirs of Walter Rau) sold a majority stake in the company to the Hamburg- based Peter Cremer Holding GmbH & Co. KG .
In June 2012, the oil mill that had been in operation since 1911 for the production of raw rapeseed oil from rapeseed was shut down. The building of the seed store was demolished in 2015.
On October 1, 2016, the Bunge Group took over 62.81% of the shares.

Production facilities
The company operates an edible oil and fat refinery in Neuss. The factory site is approx. 42,000 m 2 and is located at harbor basin 2 of the Neuss harbor . The complete refining process is carried out.
The following production facilities exist for this purpose:
- Degumming and deacidification systems
- Bleaching plants
- Deodorization columns
The following systems are available for the production of specialty grease:
- Fat hardening
- Chemical transesterification
- Enzymatic transesterification
For the packaging of the products there are several packaging lines for various types of packaging from 5 to 1000 l filling volume.
Products
Walter Rau produces vegetable fats and oils. About 50 different raw materials are processed. 400 different products are produced from this, including deep-frying fats and special fats for the baked goods, confectionery and dairy industries.
Walter Rau AG is a member of the Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) .
