The Neusser Hafen is an industrial port on the left side of the Lower Rhine in Neuss . It was created in 1835 by expanding a former side arm of the river.

The entrance to the port is 30 m above sea level. The port has five docks . The industrial area includes oil mills (including Ölmühle Sels ), container stations , the production and development department of the automotive supplier Pierburg , the production of the delicatessen producer Thomy , the plaster production by Knauf , the paper tissue production by Tempo and many other production sites of various companies. The IHC Neuss agricultural machinery production facility was also located here until 1997 . The port is an important economic factor for the city of Neuss. On average, only 36 inhabitants per km² live in the "Hafengebiet" district, which is the lowest population density in the city of Neuss.

Neuss harbor

In August 2003 the Neuss-Düsseldorfer Häfen GmbH & Co. KG was created through a merger with the Düsseldorfer Hafengesellschaft . The Neuss Railway Company is part of the company . The merger created the third largest inland port in Germany. Not only direct production is important, but also reloading to different means of transport (water, rail and road). Since August 1, 2012, RheinCargo GmbH & Co. KG has taken over the operative business as a merger of Neuss-Düsseldorfer Häfen GmbH & Co. KG and Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG . As a result of this merger, the ports in Neuss, Düsseldorf and Cologne , which together have a port area of 720 ha, are operated jointly.

leisure

In the port area there is a training center of the Neuss rowing club, which moved to the new shore park at Hafenmole II in 2015. There are a number of playground equipment and recreational opportunities in the riverside park.

Partial conversion of port basin 1

The port basin 1, which is directly adjacent to the city center, is used less and less by industry. There is now a cinema complex, an office building and the school forum of the Marienberg high school . The redesign of the port head with a staircase and the construction of a bridge from the Quirinus Minster to the port basin are intended to increase the recreational value of port basin 1 and promote the merging of the port area and city center. In the future, a new complex with residential, hotel, office and event space is also planned, which, however, meets with considerable resistance from the local companies.
