The Walter Rau food Werke GmbH is a 1903 in Hilter ( Niedersachsen based) companies in the food industry and is part of the US-based Bunge Group .
history
In 1903 Walter Rau bought the Meierhof Suderhof in Hilter and started producing margarine there. The company has been based there since it was founded. In 1929, Walter Rau expanded the company by buying the Simons oil mill in Neuss . Between 1935 and 1939 it was expanded to include Berlin and Hagenow in Mecklenburg, where he incorporated a cheese maker. In 1937 he founded Walter Rau Walfang AG for the procurement of raw materials (see whaling ). A fishing boat from this fleet, the Rau IX , is located outside the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven and can be viewed. Company founder Walter Rau died in 1940.
After the end of the Second World War , the company bought into the Hansamühle in Hamburg and founded a forwarding company at the company's headquarters in Hilter. In the 1950s, the company expanded under the management of Rau's son-in-law Hubertus Carls. Walter Rau's son Ulrich gradually joined the group management from 1958 after numerous legal proceedings up to the Federal Court of Justice against his brother-in-law Hubertus Carls and his mother. The production of frozen products started in Hamburg in 1966 and has also been produced in Hilter since 1969. In 1985 the company expanded to Bremen with the purchase of Tetzlaff & Wenzel GmbH. After the fall of the Wall , VEB Speiseproduktionsbetriebe Halle (Saale) and Pflanzenfett Velten GmbH in Velten (closed in 2007) came into the company's possession. The year 1999 meant the change to the third generation in the company management when Hubertus Rau, the grandson of the company founder, took over the management. In the same year the Hansa-Tiefkühl menu GmbH & Co. KG was spun off from the company and the company shares in Neuss were sold. The Walter Rau Neusser oil and grease AG is majority owned by Bunge.
In February 2008, the previous family business was taken over by the American Bunge Group . In August 2009 the legal form was changed from a GmbH & Co. KG to a GmbH and in October 2009 a profit transfer agreement was concluded with the parent company Bunge Deutschland GmbH . In the same year, the dressing business was sold to International Food Retail Capital .
Business areas
The Deli-Reform brand , which has existed since the 1960s, is the core brand. For the private labels u. a. the Aldi Buttella, Vitareform and Looping margarine produced by Walter Rau Lebensmittelwerke.
The company employs around 280 people in Germany and had a turnover of 200 million euros in 2008.
