Walter Renner (sports scientist)

Walter Renner (born January 28,  1936 ; † December 28,  2015 ) was a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Renner studied at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , where he also completed his doctoral thesis in 1970 on the subject of "Investigations into the use of training methods and equipment and the assessment of performance in school swimming lessons". In 1984 he completed his PhD B at the DHfK , the title of his paper was “Comparative analysis of training documents for coach training in selected socialist countries with special consideration of training in sports swimming”. From 1984 Renner was a university lecturer for theory and methodology of swimming at the DHfK and, after the university was closed, then worked in the same position at the sports science faculty of the University of Leipzig  .

In terms of sports science, he dealt with swimming lessons in schools, the promotion of young people in swimming and training for coaches. In 1988 he was one of the authors of the textbook "Swimming: Instructions for the trainer".

From 1985 to 2001 Renner held the office of chairman of the HSG DHfK Leipzig.
