Walter Scharpff

Walter Scharpff (born March 6, 1894 in Stuttgart ; † July 21, 1974 there ) was a German internist .

Life

After graduating from Dillmann-Gymnasium in Stuttgart in 1912 , Scharpff studied medicine at the universities of Tübingen , Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich . He had been a member of the Igel Tübingen academic association since the winter semester of 1912/13 . In 1920 he received his doctorate in Tübingen. From 1935 he was chief physician in the internal department at the Red Cross hospital in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt . From 1952 until his retirement in 1965 he was chief physician in the internal department of the Bethesda Hospital in Stuttgart.

In 1951 he took over provisional management of the Association of Leading Hospital Doctors in Germany and was its full chairman from 1952 until his resignation in May 1960. In 1954 Scharpff was awarded the title of professor for his services to the German hospital system .

He published mainly in the field of diseases of the stomach, liver, gall bladder and blood vessels.
