Walter Schlegel (Police Commander)

Walter Schlegel (* 1962 ) is a Swiss administrative lawyer and has been the police commander of the Canton of Graubünden since 2012 .

Life

Walter Schlegel first grew up in Poschiavo , all of the schools up to the Matura in Chur after the family moved . He broke off his civil engineering studies because of his career as an officer, instead Schlegel obtained a license to practice law after studying law at the University of Zurich . From 1992 to 1999 he was deputy head of the office in the Grisons Police Department and then until the end of 2006 Secretary of the Department in the Department of Home Affairs and Economics in the canton. As of January 1, 2007, he was elected by the government as head of the Graubünden penal system. Since 2001 Schlegel has also held the position of head of the staff unit of the WEF committee of the Graubünden government. He took over the office of police commander in the canton of Graubünden on July 1, 2012 from Beat Eberle . He is also responsible for the security of the World Economic Forum in Davos .

In January 2018 Schlegel was unanimously elected by the delegates of the SVP Graubünden as their candidate for the government council for the election in June. With 15,836 votes, which he achieved in the Graubünden government council elections on June 10, 2018, the election was unsuccessful.

Schlegel is a colonel in the Swiss Army .
