Walter Stipperger

Walter Stipperger (born February 7, 1919 in Graz ; † August 30, 2005 ) was an Austrian folklorist, popular educator, author and regional historian.

Life

His professional career began with the Liezen district administration , where he worked as a cultural advisor. He devoted himself particularly to popular education and deepened his knowledge of the country and people of the area. In this context he published articles in folklore and local history. On December 15, 1945, Stipperger founded the “Ennstaler Working Group for Homeland Care” and thus created the prerequisites for the “ Styrian Volksbildungswerk ”. The preparatory work for the establishment of the Trautenfels Landscape Museum can also be traced back to his activities in the Liezen district . After his later professional activity at the Landesmuseum Joanneum , it was possible to intensify his work for the Liezen district, whereby he founded the Dean's Museum in Haus im Ennstal and the design of the Alpine Museum at the Austriahütte.

He was also a correspondent for the Historical Commission for Styria .

He lived in Haus im Ennstal .
