Walter Van Beirendonck

Walter Van Beirendonck (born February 4, 1957 in Brecht in the Flanders region in Belgium ) is a Belgian fashion designer and founder of the fashion brand W< (also W. & L.T. , Short for Wild And Lethal Trash ).

Life

Van Beirendonck graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1980 . He belongs to the Antwerp Six group , which includes the artists Dirk van Saene , Dries Van Noten , Ann Demeulemeester , Marina Yee (all graduated in 1981) and Dirk Bikkembergs (born in 1982).

Van Beirendonck has been designing his own fashion collections since 1983, which are characterized by unusual color combinations, influences from folk art from different nations and graphic expressions. In the years from 1993 to 1999, the German jeans manufacturer Mustang had a license agreement with the designer. In 1997 he equipped the music group U2 for their PopMart tour . In the same year he equipped the band Erasure for their cowboy tour. He is the designer of the Italian shoe brand W6YZ .

In 1999 Van Beirendonck was made an honorary cultural ambassador for Flanders . In the following years he worked on various fashion projects, took part in exhibitions and ran his own window gallery in Antwerp. In 2001 he initiated the semi-annual fashion magazine A Magazine curated by , which is published by Artimo .
