Walter Weizel

Walter Weizel (born August 1, 1901 in Lauterecken , Kusel district ; † August 6, 1982 ) was a German theoretical physicist and politician.

Live and act

Weizel first studied chemistry and received his doctorate in chemistry from Heidelberg University in 1925 . In 1930 he was at the University of Chicago with Robert Mulliken . From 1931 he was professor for theoretical physics at the TH Karlsruhe and from 1936 at the University of Bonn . In 1969 he retired. Weizel was particularly concerned with molecular physics and molecular spectra as well as gas discharges.

After the war he was a member of the SPD and from 1948 to 1954 deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the city council of Bonn. 1954 to 1958 he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament.
