Walter Zimmer (politician)
Walter Zimmer González (born May 28, 1945 in Nueva Helvecia ) is a Uruguayan politician and doctor.
Education and professional career
Zimmer was born in 1945 as the son of the merchant Octavio Zimmer and María Rosa González . He first spent his school days at the Escuela Pública Nº 10 and then at the grammar school ( Liceo ) of Nueva Helvecia and the Liceo "Daniel Armand Ugón" in Colonia Valdense . This was followed by studies at the medical faculty of the Universidad de la República (UdelaR) with a focus on surgery . After graduating in 1974, he worked as a doctor in the Pasteur Hospital in Montevidean . In 1979 he finally achieved the goal of his surgical and endoscopic specialization. On June 14, 1979 he settled in Colonia and subsequently worked as a doctor in various fields. Eventually he became chairman of the Asociación Médica de Colonia . He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board ( Comité Científico ) of the Society for Surgery ( Sociedad de Cirugía ).
Private
On December 20, 1974, he married the pediatrician and neonatologist Myrna Vergara . The three daughters Karen , Erika and Kirsten come from this marriage . He is also the grandfather of three of the grandchildren Sofía , Anika and Bruno .
Political career
Its political activities began in the 1960s. Zimmer is a member of the Partido Nacional . Within this he first took up the position of Junta Departamental in the Department of Colonia with the Lista in 1904 at the municipal level and then held the post of Secretary for Social Affairs at the departmental level for a while. In the local elections in 2005 he was the top candidate for Lista 19 and was able to decide in his favor, so that he has been Intendente of Colonia since 2005 . On May 9, 2010, he was confirmed in office for a further term until 2015 in the local elections .
On March 28, 2014, he was charged with abuse of office in a trial led by Judge Virginia Ginares in Colonia, in which a prison sentence is in the room. The procedure is based on irregularities in the re-registration of vehicles in 2008. The director of the finance department of the department José Aunchaín , who is accused of falsifying documents in addition to abuse of office, is also accused.
