Walther Boecker

Walther Boecker (* 1952 in Bonn ) is a German local politician of the SPD . From October 1999 to October 21, 2015 he was the full-time mayor of the city of Hürth .

Life

Boecker, son of a social court director and a teacher, grew up in Cologne . After graduating from the Johann-Gottfried-Herder-Gymnasium in Cologne, he studied law at the University of Cologne in the 1970s . In the 1980s he was first admitted to the bar, then soon worked as a municipal civil servant for the City of Cologne, most recently as deputy head of the Office for Urban Renewal.

In 1995 the city council of Hürth elected him to succeed the outgoing city director Heribert Rohr. On February 1, 1996, he took over the office of City Director in Hürth. In the 1999 election of full-time mayor by the citizens of the city according to the new municipal regulations, he narrowly prevailed as a candidate of the SPD in the runoff election against the candidate of the CDU , Gerd Fabian. In the 2004 local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, Boecker was confirmed in office with 60 percent of the votes and on August 30, 2009 with 56 percent of the votes. Walther Boecker was a member of the supervisory board of RWE-Power AG and Vice President of the Association of Cities and Towns in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Boecker is very sporty, he is a passionate cyclist and hiker. In October 2015 he was elected to the new member council of 1. FC Köln. In 2004 he published the children's book Im DreizehnBergeland , which he had written before he started working in Hürth.

Boecker is married to a teacher and has three grown children.
