Walther Däbritz

KE Walther Däbritz (born December 21, 1881 in Grimma , † July 26, 1963 in Essen ) was a German economist.

Life

He was the son of Hermann Däbritz and his wife Hulda nee Grundmann. After attending the Princely School in Grimma, Walther Däbritz studied law and economics at the universities of Munich, Berlin and Leipzig. In Berlin he was awarded a doctorate in 1906 with a dissertation on the national debt of Saxony from 1763–1837. phil. and in Leipzig in 1908 as Dr. iur. PhD. He then initially worked in banking.

In 1912 Walther Däbritz became a lecturer in economics in Essen, where he gave academic courses in economics. In 1922 he became director of the academic courses and from 1925 he also took over the directorate of the Niederrheinische Verwaltungsakademie. He held the latter office until the end of the Second World War in 1945.

At his suggestion, a branch office in Essen was set up for the Institute for Economic Research in Berlin at the end of the 1920s. From this, the nationally important Rheinisch-Westphalian Institute for Economic Research developed under his leadership.

Walther Däbritz was a private lecturer from 1927 and honorary professor at the University of Cologne from 1938 to 1945 .

From 1934 to 1945 Däbritz was a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . He was reappointed on November 24, 1950 and converted into a corresponding member in 1960.

He died in the summer of 1963 at the age of 82 as a result of a traffic accident directly in front of the Rheinisch-Westphalian Institute for Economic Research in Essen, which he directed.

On the occasion of his death, a major memorial service was held for him in Essen on October 22, 1963, and the speeches were published in print.
