Walther Heissig

Walther Heissig (born December 5, 1913 in Vienna ; † September 15, 2005 ) was an Austrian Mongolist .

Since 1964 he was full professor for language and cultural studies of Central Asia and director of the seminar of the same name at the University of Bonn . He has published numerous larger works and individual studies on Mongolian literature, culture and history as well as collected and edited Mongolian sources.

In 1988 he was elected a member ( Fellow ) of the British Academy .
