Walther Rytz

August Rudolf Walther Rytz (also: Rytz-Miller ; born January 13, 1882 in Bern ; † September 26, 1966 there ) was a Swiss botanist and mycologist . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Rytz ".

Life

From 1902 he studied natural sciences at the Universities of Bern and Bonn and received his doctorate in Bern in 1907 under Eduard Fischer . From 1908 to 1910 he worked as a high school teacher. As an assistant at the Botanical Institute of the University of Bern, he completed his habilitation in 1911 with the work History of the flora of the Bernese hill country between the Alps and the Jura . In 1915 Rytz became curator of the collections of the Botanical Institute. From 1920 to 1952 Rytz was an associate professor for systematics and plant geography at the University of Bern. In 1923 he was the author of the Swiss School Flora . From 1933 he was also Vice Director of the Botanical Garden in Bern and from 1940 to 1957 director of the Swiss Alpine Museum . Rytz was co-editor of the Bern contributions to the history of medicine and the natural sciences .
