Walther Johannes Paul Weigelt (born February 24, 1877 in Stauchitz , † August 19, 1965 in Freiberg ) was a German mining lawyer and professor at the Freiberg Mining Academy .

After graduating from the Fürstenschule St. Afra in Meißen, Weigelt studied law and political science at the University of Leipzig from 1896 to 1899 . During his studies in 1896 he became a member of the Arion Leipzig singers . In 1905 he became an assistant judge at the Freiberg regional court and in 1906 an employee in the Saxon mining administration, in 1908 a tax assessor, in 1909 a tax officer, in 1914 a member of the Mining Authority's Council and 1920 to the Upper Mining Authority's Council . In 1922 he became director of the Miners' Insurance Office . In 1914 Weigelt was appointed associate professor and in 1918 full professor for mining law and general law at the Bergakademie. He retired in 1942, but lectured until 1952.

After the Second World War, Weigelt was appointed mining captain on August 27, 1945 and was entrusted with the management of the Oberbergamt in Freiberg. The authority was dissolved on November 20, 1946. Until August 31, 1948, Weigelt was still head of the special department in the administration of the Saxon coal industry. The Bergakademie Freiberg honored him in 1947 as an honorary senator .

During Weigelt's tenure, uniform regulations for the empire emerged (1934 the Deposit Act , 1942 the Ordinance on Exploration and Extraction of Mineral Resources ), but mining law essentially remained state law . In his publications, he presented the applicable mining law mostly in a comparative and historical manner. In November 1933 he signed the declaration of the German professors to Adolf Hitler .
