Walther Wunsch (born February 16, 1900 in Lahr / Black Forest ; † November 16, 1982 ) was a German engineer and a long-time board member of Ruhrgas AG and DVGW .

Education and professional career

Walther Wunsch attended the secondary school in Karlsruhe and, after serving in the army, also the technical university there to study chemistry. He was trained at the Gas Institute from 1923 to the end of 1927 and was a full-time assistant to Karl Bunte for several years . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Germania fraternity (today Teutonia ).

From January 1928 Walther Wunsch worked for the corporation for coal utilization , later E.ON Ruhrgas AG. In 1939 he took over control of the entire West German coke oven gas industry. Among other things, he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the pipe network, which was more than 2,000 km in length. In 1947 he was made a deputy and in 1954 a full member of the board.

Walther Wunsch was a board member of the Association of German Gas and Water Works , the Central Gas Supply , the House of Technology in Essen, the Society for Practical Energy Studies in Karlsruhe and the Association for Coal Chemistry in Essen . He was also Vice President of the Council of the International Gas Union , member of the supervisory board of Steinkohlegas AG , member of the energy group at BMWi , member of the German National Committee of the World Power Conference , member of the Scientific Council of Demag AG and honorary member of the Austrian Association for the Gas and Water Industry . Walther Wunsch was a member of the board of trustees of the gas institute of the Technical University of Karlsruhe and chairman of the board of trustees of the Essen gas heating institute.

Honors and miscellaneous

In 1951 Walther Wunsch was promoted to Dr.-Ing from his alma mater . on account of his merits in researching the physical processes in gas pipelines and their evaluation in terms of recognized measurement and operating procedures. In 1952 Walther Wunsch received a teaching position for gas distribution and measurement at the RWTH Aachen . He was co-editor of the magazine Das Gas- und Wasserfach (GWF) and the heat.

On October 18, 1966 Walther Wunsch was honored with the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . In the same year he was awarded the Bunsen-Pettenkofer Honor Roll.
