Waltraut Bleiber

Waltraut Bleiber (born May 21, 1926 in Nehesdorf as Waltraut Petrick ) is a German medieval historian .

Waltraut Bleiber initially worked in agriculture after primary school from 1940 to 1941, followed by an apprenticeship as an accountant until 1944. After the Second World War , she attended the workers and farmers faculty for two years , where she also graduated from high school. In 1950, Bleiber began studying history at the Humboldt University in Berlin (HUB). In July 1962 she received her doctorate from Frithjof Sielaff and Eckhard Müller-Mertens with a thesis on the subject of investigations into the situation of ecclesiastical property in Eastern Franconia, Western Franconia and Lorraine from the conclusion of the Treaty of Verdun to the beginning of the 11th century . Since February 1972 Bleiber has been teaching as a university lecturer for general history of the Middle Ages at the HUB. The PhD B took place in November 1976 with the thesis Natural Economy and Goods-Money-Relationships between Somme and Loire during the 7th century , experts were besides Müller-Mertens Bernhard Töpfer and Johannes Schneider . In 1986 Bleiber retired. She was run by the Ministry for State Security of the GDR as a social worker for security . She dealt primarily with the history of the Franconian Empire , especially the Merovingians , which was a rather unusual field of activity for historians in the GDR.
