Roll bending

Corrugation bending: The sheet is pressed from the left by the rotating rollers and is corrugated in the process

The roll bending is a manufacturing process from the group bend forming with a rotating tool movement . Rollers , which can also be profiled, are used as tools . In contrast to rolling, which is part of pressure forming and processes massive raw parts ( massive forming ), bending stresses are introduced into the forming zone in roll bending and mostly sheet metal is used as raw part ( sheet metal forming ), sometimes also massive raw parts such as rods or tubes.

In DIN 8586, roll bending is classified as follows:

  • Roll rounding : Rounding off straight blanks that are bent between the rollers. The bending radius is set via the position of the rollers, not their shape.
  • Roller leveling : Used to Align , so the straightening, crooked workpieces.
  • Roll-drawing bending : Here the rollers are not driven, as is usually the case, but the workpiece is pulled through between two or more rotating rollers. Otherwise it corresponds to roll forming.
  • Roll forming : Profiled rollers are used to create a profile from a flat strip.
  • Corrugated bending : The "rollers" have several bulges distributed around the circumference, similar to a gear . It is used to manufacture corrugated iron .
