Fritz Klocke (engineer)

Fritz Klocke (born October 10, 1950 in Vlotho ) is a German mechanical engineer and university professor . From 1995 to 2018 Klocke owner was the Chair of technology of manufacturing processes , Member of the Executive Board of the WZL of RWTH Aachen University and director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT).

Life

Fritz Klocke studied production technology from 1970 to 1976 at what is now the Technical University of Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Lemgo and at the Technical University of Berlin . After completing his studies, he stayed at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology at the TU Berlin, where he initially worked as a research assistant until 1981 and as a senior engineer until 1984. In 1982 he received his doctorate in engineering. at the Department of Design and Manufacturing at the Technical University of Berlin.

From 1984 to 1994 Klocke worked in the industry at Ernst Winter & Sohn in Norderstedt near Hamburg . There he worked as an assistant to the technical director and took over the management of process monitoring in October 1984 and from September 1985 management of mechanics .

In 1995 he was appointed university professor for the subject “Technology of Manufacturing Processes” at RWTH Aachen University . From 2001 to 2002 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and from 2007 to 2008 President of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). Until 2018 he was a member of the board of directors of the WZL machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University and head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT.

On October 10, 1985, Klocke was awarded the Otto Kienzle commemorative coin by the Production Technology University Group . In 2010 he received the title »Dr.-Ing. Eh «from the University of Hanover , in 2009 he received an honorary doctorate from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in 2010 from the Keiō University in Tokyo .

The Fraunhofer medal was awarded Klocke 2010 on the occasion of his 60th birthday in appreciation of his service to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft . At the end of 2012 he was appointed to the College of Fellows of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), which presented him with the Eli Whitney Productivity Award in Detroit in 2014 . Fritz Klocke has also been a Fellow at RWTH Aachen University since 2014 . In 2017 he received the Fraunhofer Mint from the Fraunhofer Society.

He is married to Martina Klocke , a professor at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences .
